?The ability to outsource locally in the modern information age is a major key?, says creative director Frank Anderson. ?Several members of our team have 10+ years of experience in the video game industry, and this is a trend that we?ve seen accelerating since about 2005. The previous norm was to hire a big staff to work on a project, which inevitably led to layoffs when projects were cancelled or completed. Now, with the modern workforce environment, we increasingly have the capability to staff projects with contract workers. This allows us the flexibility to expand and contract fluidly, depending on the project that we?re working on.?
?The video game aesthetic is a big part of our approach?, says creative director Alexis Jones. ?What we?ve run into time and time again, is that a video game project can look extremely slick and have a lot of flashy graphics and great 3D, but people get bored with it. New advances in lighting effects, textures, rendering and 3D animation, along with all the hardware advances with HD TVs and all that, have created an environment where, increasingly, even the most over the top digital effects extravaganzas can provoke yawns. We?ve found that what really gets people excited are things like fun, interactive gameplay, or models with lots of personality-models that people like, and want to be like. Dark themes, heavy on the ?cool? factor, and dripping with style are also a big bonus. It all comes down to stuff that?s new, creative and smart. What we really hate is what you could call creativity-by-committee, projects that suck because all the decisions are watered down in a democratic process that pulls strongly toward what?s mediocre and safe, and tends to get pruned down by unimaginative producers and executives. Even now, even in this age of $100M blockbusters, it?s always what?s new, fresh and daring that creates the biggest buzz.?
